Find Your Perch

Perch is a platform that aims to transform the way users interact with the internet. By leveraging automations and LLMs, Perch enables users to become inactive participants in the internet, providing a means to stay informed about the world with significantly less effort and screen time. For the alpha launch the platform will focus on the below features, but will expand in the future.

Intent Engine

The Intent Engine is a key component of Perch, designed to be simpler, better, and faster than existing solutions. It will use tools to respond to queries as quickly as possible, only using LLMs when necessary, and will be capable of using external tools such as calculators to perform calculations, rather than writing out code like some existing solutions. This approach will drastically improve the speed and quality of responses, making it an essential tool for users who want to get the information they need quickly.

Some of the key features facilitated by the Intent Engine include:

  • Providing expertly written articles in response to user queries
  • Capable of using tools to respond to queries as quickly as possible
  • Various agents insure journalistic quality in articles
  • Schedule updates to be sent to the user
  • Open websites instantly instead of through a search engine

Scheduling Engine

In addition to the Intent Engine, Perch will also feature a powerful Scheduling Engine, which can be thought of as a journalist on retainer. This component will keep users updated on news based on their queries, providing daily, weekly, or monthly reports, depending on the user's preferences. For example, a user could ask Perch to "tell me all the latest news about a particular topic" and the Scheduling Engine will provide regular updates on that topic.

Ripple Engine

The Ripple Engine is another essential component of Perch, designed to digest content into concise articles. It will update feeds at user-specified times, reducing the noise and clutter of instant updates while at the same time not having duplicate content. This approach will allow users to stay informed about the topics that interest them, without being overwhelmed by a constant stream of information.

Ok, but why?

One of the key benefits of Perch is that it allows users to be more intentional in their online activities. Rather than constantly checking their feeds for updates, users can set their preferred update schedule and let Perch do the work for them. This approach will help users to reduce their screen time and increase their productivity.

Another benefit of Perch is that it provides high-quality content, written in a journalistic style and reviewed by editor agents. This ensures that the information provided is accurate, relevant, and easy to understand, making it an essential tool for anyone who wants to stay informed about the world.

By reducing the time spent searching for information and providing concise, relevant articles, Perch increases the efficiency of the user's information-gathering process.

Demos

I have vibe-coded, so as not to waste my time,a demo of the state of the internet, the broken internet. This demo walks you through an internet without adblockers, one which sadly even with ad blockers is still in a pretty sorry state.

Following that is the Perch demo, which shows a similar query as in the broken internet demo, but with Perch. I will update both demos over time and the demo for Perch will eventually show the full functionality of the platform.

What's next?

If you're interested in Perch, please join the waitlist here. I will be updating this site with more information as I finish platform development.

This is only the beginning of Perch, and I will be also be adding a timeline for the upcoming features and phases as Perch is meant to be a lens for the whole internet not just articles and updates. Alpha launch is scheduled for May 1st, 2025.

I'm an advocate of LLM assisted... everything I guess? AI stewardship is what I believe will allow us to head forward. Allowing agents to go out and do things while we just check in sometimes. Perch is a way to slow the firehose of information that is the internet and create a lens through which we can see the world better. The internet is a sea of nonsense with or without ads. We need to consolidate as much as possible, get information presented as succinctly as possible, and do so at a better pace than the internet standard currently is. You sit on your perch and let things come to you.

I think one of my main issues with the state of the internet right now is that we are active participants. We shouldn't be. It keeps us engaged, doomscrolling, and actively wasting our time in a mind numbing search for things we think are worth knowing or that could hold our attention.

I think AI stewardship will enable us to become passive participants. We still get to be part of the broader world but with significantly less effort on our part. The other side of this argument would be well then you get stuck in your bubble and that you're just stuck viewing the world through a biased lens of some sort. And I don't disagree, but it isn't entirely without customization (thus AI stewardship) and the point is we already do that to ourselves.

We are already constantly seeing things through the lens of some algorithm, why not do something with a bit more control. Even if things were equal, if I have to keep dealing with the internet that forced me to buy into this idea of wasting my time searching for things non-stop then even at a base level I would rather spend 90% less effort to get the same knowledge. This is why I'm building Perch.

And no I'm not building an algorithm. That exists and some things will be a part of what I use to feed perch. There will be as much user input, choice and control as I can build in. I'm just building this less active lens through which to see the internet. And one that rewrites it for you in a better way. One that edits it in a readable way.

Perch will allow you to be above it all. You can look out over all the shit, know it, and be unbothered by it. Knowledge is power. Perch gets you power and your time back.

Is Perch free?

No, Perch is not free. While we believe in making information accessible, developing a platform requires significant effort and resources. However, we're offering special pricing for our alpha launch:

  • Alpha participants will receive a significant discount
  • Target price point is $5/month
  • Early adopters will have access to exclusive features and priority support
